This stock range of gas spring has been specifically designed to meet the design requirements of a closing gate or door, but can be applied to other similar applications.
- 316 stainless rod
- Steel protective shroud
- Fully damped in extension
- Fitted with release valve so force can be reduced
- Supplied with a combination of alternative end fittings
Fully damped in extension, IGS standard gate gas springs are a suitable alternative to standard gate closers and allow a much greater choice of mounting positions. These gas springs are using IGS standard design for outdoors gas springs and have been specifically designed to withstand over 100,000 cycles outdoors or indoors.
These gas springs are heavily damped in extension, ensuring that the closing movement of the gate is slow and cannot hurt or injure the person standing next to it (gas spring's force may need to be adjusted to obtain optimal speed/force).
Please note that whilst there is no damping in compression, gate gas springs are self-powered and are producing a high force regardless of the direction of the movement, please check this page for further information.
When you try to close a gate with your hand, you need to exert a force on the gate. This force (in Newtons) times the distance between your hand and the hinge (in metres) gives you the "manual closing torque" required to close the gate.
Other sizes including a fully stainless steel version can be manufactured against your specification.
If you realise that the gas spring is too strong you can reduce the force using the internal ball valve. Before you do so, please note that the minimum working force for this gas springs is 100 newtons. If you reduce the force below 100 newtons (about 10kg), the gas spring's life may be shortened.

Example of a gas spring F100600/BB/0100 fitted on an access wooden door.
The gate gas spring in the video below is fitted as per Application Example 7.
On this video, when the door is fully open, the gap behind the door goes from 20mm at the hinge, up to 70mm at the door handle.
The fixed point is 150mm away from the centre of the hinge and the door point is 693mm away from the centre of the hinge.
